The Regular Education Division of the Transportation Fleet Services Department is committed to providing students with safe, efficient and reliable transportation service to and from school. The district policy defines a student to be eligible to ride a school bus as any student outside the one mile walk boundary to school or where a major arterial creates a crossing hazard for a student. Riding the bus is a privilege extended to students who live in the busing areas of our school district. Students shall abide by all policies and regulations relating to conduct on school buses and at designated bus stops.Eligibility for TransportationWashington Elementary School District boundaries are defined as part of the governing board approved boundaries and is used to determine if students in the proper grades are eligible for transportation based on their physical address.
Inside each individual school boundary will also be a walk boundary approved by the governing board. This boundary can be up to 1 mile from the point of entry of each school. Busing will be provided for those students living inside the school boundary area, but outside of the walk boundary. Many of the Washington Elementary ¹ú²ú̽»¨ are walking schools and do not receive busing.
Washington Elementary School District does recognize there are some hazardous areas and will provide transportation for these locations within the walk boundary when deemed necessary. Students living outside the school boundary do not qualify for busing. Students are assigned a bus stop by their residential address listed in our student information system provided to transportation from each school.
Determining Bus StopsStops are assigned within a general location of where all students reside and must meet state regulations for safety. Typical stop locations are within subdivisions near parks, common walls and retention areas. Stops must be at least 50 feet from an intersection without traffic control signals and 100 feet from an intersection with traffic control signals. Bus stops should be no closer than a minimum of 600 feet unless hazardous conditions determines that stops are necessary for safety. Bus stops are reviewed carefully on an ongoing basis for safety and effectiveness.
